Diameter requirements of ring die holes

1.Inner diameter D and press belt width b
According to area theoretical derivation of unit power, inner diameter of ring die shall be within optimal range: A=πDb/P. For ring dies of same area, undersized width makes larger ring die diameter, and then the whole volume increases, which results to unnecessary waste. Oversized width cannot ensure uniform placement of materials so that ring die and roller shell suffers non-uniform wearing, and then working life reduces. In conclusion, suitable width and diameter of ring dies can not only ensure high output, but also improves working life of components. Through tests, the relationship between b and D is that b= (0.2 - 0.3)D=KD


2.Relationship between ring die diameter and energy consumption
Production efficiency can be improved if squeezing force between effective working area of ring die and roller shell increases. Then wearing and operating cost can be reduced, and materials can be squeezed uniformly, which ensures pellet quality. Ring dies of different diameters have different power consumption. Under same processing temperature and durability, the power consumptions of small and large ring dies are quite different. Hence, using proper ring die can effectively reduce power consumption.


3.Relationship between quality, output and cost 
The size of pellet mill determines ring die diameter. For two pellet mills with ring die diameters differs by 500mm, and roller shell diameters differs by 80mm, under the same quality requirements, the output of the pellet mill with larger ring die diameter is 65% more, while the power consumption is 15% less. Larger sized pellet mill has less relative costs.


4.The relationship between ring die diameter and working life and cost 
Ring die diameter has linear relationship with working life. Larger ring die diameter makes longer working life, and less cost. Compared between ring dies of diameter 900mm and 520mm, the cost of 900mm diameter is less than the other by 50%.
